Goal Seek is a built-in Excel tool that allows you to see how one data item in a formula impacts another. You might look at these as “cause and effect” scenarios.
Let us see how to use Goal Seeking using an example below.
Suppose you have scored the following marks in 8 different subjects in a year.

Lets say the passing marks is set as 65%. The current percentage in this year is (480 / 800) × 100 = 60%, which is considered as FAIL.
If this student has to increase the marks and PASS this year, he has to core 5% extra which he can obtain in any of the subject. Lets say if he wants to change the marks of SUBJECT 6 which is the least score among all the subjects. To obtain 65% overall his overall marks Obtained should be 520.
Hence we have to use the Goal Seeking Command as shown below.
Now you can see the marks of SUBJECT 6 has changed to suite the 65% Passing Requirement from 29 to 69.
